Over 150
parents participated in this very successful First Nations Parents Conference
held in Vancouver. The workshops were well attended and very informative.
Many parents came away from the conference with new ideas and new friends.
The First Nations Parents Club would like to again thank the co-host parents
from Anishnaabe Place for their hard work and enthusiasm.
2nd Annual ABLKC National Conference 2008 - Seeing Ourselves in
the Mirror: Giving Life to LearningFebruary 28,

Thank you to all of the participants, volunteers and presenters
for making this conference so successful! The event showcased special
guest speakers (Dr.
Manu Meyer, Pauline Gordon, Willie Ermine and Dr. Herman Michell), plus theatrical
transitions pieces, keynote addresses by Dr. Lorna Williams and Chief Leah
George, and 50 workshops dedicated to themes in Indigenous knowledge and holistic
learning. FNESC was a local partner in delivering this conference. Visit the

13th Annual Provincial Conference on Aboriginal
Education - Aboriginal Perspectives in Teaching & Learning Nov.
22-24, 2007, Westin Bayshore, Vancouver
With over 800 attendees, the provincial conference was a huge success. It
featured
a movie night where two new Raven Tales episodes – Love and War and Child
of Tears -were featured and the Raven-mobile was on display. Day one of the conference
featured speeches by Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond, BC Representative for Children
and Youth, and Shirley Bond, Minister of Education and Deputy Premier, and it
featured a panel on integrating Aboriginal content into the curriculum. Day two
of the conference featured a recorded address by Minister of Indian Affairs,
Chuck Strahl, a youth Work Experience Program panel, an English 12 First Peoples
panel, and a speech by Grand Chief Ed John of the First Nations Summit. The conference
was hosted jointly by FNESC, the Ministry of Education, the United Native Nations
Society and the Métis Provincial Council of BC. Thanks to everyone who
contributed to the conference this year!
First Nations Languages Conference 2007: Immersion Planning – Language

This conference offered an opportunity for teachers,
local community educators, Elders, academics, linguists and others to gather
and learn from one another
through informative workshops and plenary discussions focused on the issue
