Teacher Education Access & Choices Handbook (TEACH)
- Linking Aboriginal Communities with Teacher Program Information and Post-Secondary
Opportunities **New**
TEACH is a provincial education resource booklet created by
the Aboriginal Teacher Education Consortium (ATEC) and the First Nations Education
Steering Committee. The focus of the booklet is to promote teacher programs
to Aboriginal learners.
ATEC’s goal is to increase the number of certified Aboriginal teachers
in BC. TEACH includes information on teacher certification
options, information from all teacher programs offered in BC, as well as information
from over 25 colleges and universities in BC. The booklet also includes “What’s
up with Universities and Colleges?” a section that answers many common
questions about post-secondary institutions, general information about funding
post-secondary education and a hands-on section that students can use to research
post-secondary institutions themselves.
TEACH features Aboriginal teachers in the booklet and many
of the post-secondary institutes have included quotes and photos of Aboriginal
student role models that have pursued education and continue to strive and succeed.
The positive messages throughout the booklet will help to promote post-secondary
education to First Nations learners.
